As early as the 15th century, a community of fishermen, farmers, and merchants lived in Sant’Angelo, bringing the village to life through daily work and trade along the coast.
During the Aragonese rule, a watchtower was built on the rocky cone that still dominates the landscape today: that tower, which all the locals simply know as “La Torre”, still watches silently over the village.
In the past, a small church dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel also stood on the top of the promontory, and it was from this church that the village took its name.

A small inlet at the entrance to the village (west side), with a secluded beach at the foot of high tuff cliffs. It is one of the village’s four beaches and directly overlooks the bay of Sant’Angelo.
An ancient place name linked to the maritime life of Sant’Angelo: in the past, fishermen carved caves into the rocky slope to shelter from storms. Today, “Chiaia di Rose” is also the beach in the center of the village, on the isthmus that connects the village to the islet.
A rock formation on the western side of Sant’Angelo, appreciated by snorkeling enthusiasts for its gently sloping seabed. Pedestrian access along the cliff has at times been subject to restrictions and prohibition signs: check locally before heading there.
The iconic tuff islet connected to the village by a short isthmus: it is the southernmost point of the island of Ischia. Its name recalls an ancient watchtower that stood at its summit until the early 19th century. Today, it is one of the village’s most iconic photographic symbols.
The pedestrian heart of Sant’Angelo, overlooking the small harbor: it is home to bars, restaurants, boutiques, and the departure point for taxi boats to Fumarole, Maronti, Sorgeto, and other coves. Lively during the day and romantic at sunset.
A small network of alleyways behind the main square; this little open space is home to the wine bar “La Stadera” (Via Comandante Maddalena 15), which has become a popular evening meeting spot.
The best-known panoramic viewpoint to admire Sant’Angelo from above is the Belvedere di Serrara (Piazza Pietro Paolo Iacono, Serrara Fontana): it offers a sweeping view over the southern coast and the village.
The village’s parish church, inaugurated in 1850 along the panoramic route between the center and Le Fumarole. It houses the venerated statue of Saint Michael, and on September 29 the traditional procession takes place by land and by sea. The parish received official recognition at the beginning of the 20th century.
On the final stretch of Maronti Beach, just a few minutes on foot from Sant’Angelo, geothermal heat rises from the underground, warming the sand and the water. The area can be reached on foot or by taxi boat from the village. Warning: always walk with footwear on, and respect the signs and restricted areas.
In Sant’Angelo, the sea marks the passing of time with the charm of its many facets. Here, it is possible to reach hidden beaches and unspoiled corners by small boats (taxi boats) guided by fishermen who preserve the history of this corner of the island.
An intimate cove on the edge of the village center (west side), ideal for peaceful moments with a view over the bay;
beach services and restaurants are available in the immediate vicinity.
A stretch of Maronti Beach characterized by fumaroles: warm sand, beach clubs, and dining facilities, reachable on foot via a panoramic path from the center or by sea. (Footwear is mandatory).
The beach by the harbor isthmus, with shallow waters and both free and equipped areas: perfect for families and sheltered by breakwaters.
A small bay on the Succhivo side, a 10-minute walk from the bus stop/taxi area above Sant’Angelo; with a panoramic view of the “Torre”. Access is via a staircase.

Reaching Sant’Angelo is part of the journey.
From Naples’ Molo Beverello, hydrofoils depart for Forio, the port closest to Sant’Angelo. Alternatively, you can arrive at Casamicciola or Ischia Porto and continue by bus or taxi toward the southern coast of the island.
Those who wish for an even more direct experience can rely on private boat services that arrive right in the center of Sant’Angelo, entering from the sea just as fishermen and travelers have done for centuries.
Cars do not circulate here; therefore, those arriving by car can leave their vehicles in the large parking areas at the entrance to the village, while electric golf carts will take any luggage directly to the accommodation facilities.
